Latest Equipments and its Features

The newly established Interventional Endoscopy unit in KMCH has the latest state of the art Gastrointestinal endoscopy equipments (Gastroscope, Colonoscope, ERCP scope) with high definition monitor, Magnification endoscopy and Narrow band imaging facilities.

In this technology early cancer changes which are not visible by ordinary endoscopes can be clearly seen with magnification and accuracy. Narrow band imaging is an another latest cutting edge technology which uses special light to visualize the internal blood vessels in the Gastrointestinal system, which is not possible to visualize with routine endoscopic system. This technology can be used to detect changes in the blood vessels pattern that occurs in early stage of cancer, and also to see the smallest absorbing unit of small intestine called Villi and helps targeting biopsy accurately. This saves the cost for the patient.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatogram(ERCP) done here with high definition monitor and magnification facility for the first time in Coimbatore will be a great boon for the patients, to visualize bile ducts and pancreatic duct system.

Endo Bronchial Ultra Sound (EBUS) is the newly acquired equipment of Department of Interventional Pulmonology in KMCH which has the cutting edge technology in Bronchoscopy.

E-BUS is a unique combination of both Broncoscope and an Ultrasound. It can image structures both within the airways breathing tubes and outside it. Any abnormal lesion in the lymph nodes can be both scanned and biopsy can be undertaken under image guidance simultaneously without any radiation hazard. It is useful in identifying and staging early lung cancer, TB in lymph nodes and many other problems affecting Respiratory Systems.
